What to Bring When You Move
Discussion Topic:
A few months ago, Jaden moved to a brand new house in a different country. Since it was so far away he could only bring a couple suitcases. He had to go through everything in his room and choose which things were the most important to him. He chose his favorite blanket, his teddy bear, some of his toy cars and a few of his favorite books.
Do you think it would be hard to leave your things? What are some things you would be sure to bring with you to a new home? What would you like about moving to a new place?
You may not have to move to a new home but what new places have you been to? Maybe a new class or playground? How did you feel when you went to that new place? What did you like about the new class or home? If you see someone new to your class or the playground, what can you do to help them feel happy?
The Bible says that we don’t have to be afraid because God will be with us wherever we go. When Joshua was about to move to the Promised Land he was a little nervous but the Lord encouraged him by telling him “…Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9 So when we are afraid to go to a new place (a new school or a new class or a new home) we can remember Joshua and God’s promise that He will be with us wherever we are.
Jaden was happy to see his new home and still have some things from his old home. Sometimes he misses his old home but he likes learning all the different things about his new home. Next time, we hope to share with you some of the things Jaden has learned about his new home.
